DevOps Engineer
Interested in joining a tech-driven SaaS team? We skip the clichés and get straight to the point: building a scalable platform with a world-class stack. Zero noise, 100% focus on impact.
Working in a tech-driven SaaS team
At Booking Experts, you will work on a scalable reservation platform that supports recreation businesses both nationally and internationally. Our platform is used daily by thousands of end-users and is continuously growing in functionality, user base, and data volume.
As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will work on the technical foundation (platform + infrastructure) to ensure developers can develop and deploy software quickly, securely, and reliably. You will be part of the Technical Operations team and have a direct impact on the stability, performance, and scalability of the platform.
What will you be doing?
Together with the team, you will tackle concrete challenges that add direct value to our platform and our users' experience:
Ensuring and improving platform scalability and performance as the number of users and bookings grows.
Optimising and managing our cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP).
Improving and automating CI/CD pipelines for fast and secure deployments.
Managing and evolving Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform.
Enhancing monitoring, logging, and alerting with tools such as Honeybadger, New Relic, and CloudWatch.
Contributing to architectural choices and long-term technical direction.
Collaborating with software engineers to perfectly align the platform and applications.
Analysing and resolving incidents structurally, with a focus on reliability and prevention.
Continuously improving the developer experience within the platform team.
Role Objective:
You will build and maintain the technical foundation, enabling development teams to work efficiently while ensuring the platform remains stable and scalable.
Team & Collaboration
You will work within an engineering organisation of 35+ engineers, specifically in the Technical Operations team.
You will work closely with:
Gerjan (Staff Software Engineer)
Arthur (Staff Software Engineer)
Jurre (Senior Software Engineer)
Together, you are responsible for the platform and infrastructure upon which the rest of the engineering organisation builds. The Technical Operations team operates across three pillars:
DevOps & Developer Experience (DX): Developing and maintaining technical tooling to empower developers to be self-sufficient. This includes removing obstacles to efficient development.
Scalability: Ensuring the organisation can continue to scale—both in terms of the number of developers and the underlying infrastructure.
Security & Privacy: Minimising risks; as such, Technical Operations plays a vital role in the implementation of ISO 27001 and GDPR within our organisation.
Management
You will report to Stefan Kroes (CTO).
Stefan has over 20 years of experience in web-based software projects, with a strong background in Ruby on Rails, architecture, and product development. He works with the team at both a technical and strategic level, encouraging initiative and in-depth technical discussion.
Who are you?
You are an experienced software engineer who feels at home in complex environments and takes responsibility for system reliability and scalability.
Furthermore, you have:
At least a BSc in Computer Science (or equivalent level). An MSc is a plus;
A minimum of 3 years of experience in software development;
Experience in Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Cloud Engineering;
Experience with modern web technologies and backend systems (e.g., Ruby on Rails or similar);
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP;
Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform);
Knowledge of CI/CD and deployment automation;
Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL and Redis (preferred);
A mindset focused on scalable and maintainable solutions;
The ability to take ownership and make independent technical decisions;
Strong communication skills to justify technical choices and collaborate with fellow experts.
Environment & culture
Our culture is driven by: passion, knowledge, collaboration, innovation, growth, and results. In practice, this means:
We work with passion on high-quality solutions.
We actively share knowledge and never stop learning.
We collaborate closely with colleagues and partners.
We innovate and improve continuously.
We encourage personal and professional growth and offer ample career progression opportunities.
We focus on delivering tangible value.
Within the engineering team, you see this reflected in open communication, in-depth discussions, and plenty of space for initiative and improvement.

About Booking Experts
Our origins lie with Expert Webdesign, where we developed websites for all kinds of companies, including recreation entrepreneurs. We repeatedly encountered the same problem: the websites were far ahead of the market and competition, but lacked the ability to book a vacation directly through the website. Customers had to contact the reception desk by phone or switch to external booking platforms. We thought this could be done better and more easily.
That's why we sat down with all kinds of parties, such as receptionists, park managers, technical services, cleaners, barrier operators, and management, to identify the bottlenecks from various perspectives. The result was the development of an innovative reservation system that integrates all the essentials for recreation companies. That's how Booking Experts came into being in 2011. Our booking platform has grown to become the go-to platform for holiday parks, campsites, and hotels in various countries.
To meet growing demand, we established our marketing agency Booking Boosters in 2017. This enables us to help our customers increase their online sales and stimulate their growth. Through effective and performance-based marketing techniques, such as SEO, SEA, Affiliate Marketing, and Social Media, we help holiday parks grow and flourish!
