Site Reliability Engineer
Are you the strategist who can take property projects to the top and would like to work within a team of specialists? At Booking Experts, we are building the new standard for the leisure industry.
Booking Experts is helping to change the way hospitality works. In this role, you and your team will be responsible for the entire foundation of our software. You will build the tooling and infrastructure that enables our other engineers to perform at their best.
Help build Booking Experts
As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will work on complex issues in the areas of CI/CD, monitoring and security. You will implement scalable hosting via AWS ECS and manage our cloud infrastructure with Terraform. In addition, you will provide insight into performance via New Relic and CloudWatch, giving you a direct impact on the reliability of our platform. You will build internal tooling and ensure continuous improvement by learning from incidents and outages.
A day as a Site Reliability Engineer:
No two days are the same in this role, which makes the work dynamic and varied. Nevertheless, there is a clear structure and rhythm that you can count on. To give you a realistic idea of what to expect, we describe what an average working day looks like below:
08:30 AM | Monitoring & Check: You start the day with a look at the dashboards. Everything is running stable, but you spot a small spike in database load that you want to dig into later in the day.
10:00 AM | Infrastructure as Code: You're working on a new Terraform module to make our S3 buckets even more secure and efficient. You briefly align with a senior developer about the required permissions.
12:00 PM | Shared Lunch: Time to recharge with the team in our modern canteen in Enschede. After a healthy lunch, we take a walk together to kick off the afternoon with a fresh focus.
01:30 PM | CI/CD Optimization: You're extending our Semaphore setup so test pipelines run faster. Every minute saved here directly means more speed for the entire development team.
03:30 PM | Post-Mortem Session: Together with your colleagues, you discuss an incident from yesterday. No finger-pointing, purely looking at: what can we learn, and what automated check can we add to prevent this in the future?
04:30 PM | Tooling & Automation: You wrap up the day by continuing work on an internal script that automates the setup of new test environments. You update your progress in GitHub and look ahead to tomorrow.
Who are you?
Education & experience: You have a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science (or equivalent) and at least 3 years of experience as a software or platform engineer.
Technical foundation: You have in-depth knowledge of AWS (ECS, RDS, S3), Docker and Terraform. Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL and Redis is a must.
Attitude & location: You are eager to learn and immediately translate incidents into structural improvements. You preferably live in Overijssel and are available for at least 36 hours per week.
What do you bring to the table?
You are someone who stays calm when the pressure mounts and always looks for the most scalable solution. You get energy from automating repetitive tasks and enjoy technical discussions without getting too theoretical. You understand that security and efficiency must go hand in hand for the best user experience.
You take full ownership of the stability of the platform. You are proactive in identifying bottlenecks and enjoy working with the team at our office in Enschede. During your onboarding, a buddy will familiarise you with our tech stack.

What do we offer you?
Terms of employment: A competitive monthly salary commensurate with your experience, an annual increase.
Workplace: A modern office in Enschede with sit-stand desks, a MacBook with a large screen and an extensive communal lunch every day.
Freedom: The option to work hybrid (2-3 days on average) and 25 days of holiday per year to recharge your batteries.
Growth: An innovative environment where we always choose “the right tool for the job” and you get plenty of opportunities to develop yourself further technically.
