Work Your Way at Booking Experts
At Booking Experts, we believe there’s no one-size-fits-all way of working. That’s why “Work Your Way” is such an important part of our culture: having the freedom to organise your work in a way that fits you, your role and your life. For some, that means working from the office in Enschede, while for others it’s a hybrid workweek or working remotely from another location.
In this blog, colleagues share how they’ve each found their own way of working within BEX.
Working from different places
For Diksha and Cynthia, working remotely is simply part of their day-to-day work at Booking Experts. From The Hague and Aachen (both 2,5 hours away from our office), they work on content and marketing for different international markets.
A mix of home and office days
Diksha lives in The Hague and is a Content Marketer for the UK market at Booking Experts, where she focuses on ParcVu powered by Booking Experts. She also supports other international markets, including Denmark.
Most of the time, Diksha works from her home office. Every other Monday, she travels to the Enschede office. Diksha: ‘’It’s nice to brainstorm together, catch up face-to-face, and have more natural conversations. I feel like I get the best of both worlds that way.
Working from home helps her get easier into focus, especially when writing or working on content projects.
Diksha: “Even though I mostly work from home, I still try to keep the same structure I’d have at the office. I usually start my day early, which means I can take my dog Arya out for a long walk during lunch. That’s become part of my routine and something I really enjoy.’’
Cynthia works in a similar way, but from Aachen. As a Content Marketeer for the DACH and French markets, she focuses on creating and managing marketing content that fits different audiences and markets. Cynthia: “When I need a break when working from home, I might go for a run or a walk to clear my head and come back to work later with a fresh perspective.”
Most of Cynthia’s week is remote, with occasional office visits in Enschede, usually around twice a month. Just like Diksha, she uses her remote days to focus deeply on content creation, while office days are mainly for team meetings and exchanging ideas.
Close collaboration
Even though they don’t see their colleagues every day in person, both Diksha and Cynthia feel closely connected to the team. Most communication happens through Slack (an online communication channel), online calls and meetings, which keeps collaboration easy and makes sure you never really feel alone during the day.
What they both value most from working at Booking Experts is the balance: focus time at home, and connecting with colleagues during office days. All supported by a team that is always easy to reach, no matter where everyone is working from.
Temporarily working remotely from Spain
Kyra works as an Online Marketer in the DACH team at Booking Boosters, where she focuses on social advertising, Google Ads and performance marketing for the German market.
The idea of temporarily working from Spain actually started in her personal environment, where the concept of spending the winter abroad had already been on the table for a while. After a few visits to Spain, that feeling only became stronger.
Kyra: “For me and my boyfriend, this made a lot of sense because we often get a bit of a winter dip. Especially in Germany, when you don’t see the sun for weeks. We thought, this can’t be how it should be, right? Life is too short not to do what you really enjoy. So for us, spending the winter in Spain felt like a great idea.”
Once in Spain, her workweek turned out to be much more familiar than expected. From Monday to Thursday, she worked from 08:00 to 16:30, pretty much the same as she was used to from her home office in Germany.
Kyra: “I could just focus and work from my newly set-up home office spot. Online meetings continued, I checked off my tasks and I was still able to brainstorm with colleagues as usual.”
For Kyra, this showed that location doesn’t have to be the deciding factor, as long as there is good collaboration and trust, combined with clear agreements on how you work together and stay reachable.
Stepping out of your comfort zone
The biggest difference was the environment and everything around it. During breaks, she went outside to enjoy the sun or take a walk along the beach. After work, it often turned into cooking together, going for a walk or grabbing a drink and meal nearby.
Kyra: “A nice challenge from that period was that you’re taken out of your usual routines. It naturally makes you do more things on your own and step out of your comfort zone more easily.”
Remote working as a way of living and working
For Lisa and Henrik, remote working is not a temporary setup, but a structural part of their role within Business Development. Lisa works remotely from France, where she focuses on growing the French market for Booking Experts, while Henrik works from Denmark, helping expand Booking Experts across the Nordic market. Even though they are based in different countries, they stay closely connected to the international team in the Netherlands.
For both of them, being close to their market is a big advantage. Living and working in the same region as their customers helps them better understand local needs, culture and communication.
Lisa: ‘’I couldn't imagine doing this job without going out to meet clients and spreading the word about BEX face-to-face. I live between Nantes and Vendée—which is the top department in France for campsites—giving me a fantastic opportunity to connect with them through trade shows, local events and road trips.’’
Henrik experiences the same within the Nordic market.
Henrik: “It is essential to be close to the market. Understanding the local needs and speaking the language makes it easier to build trust. It makes a big difference that I can quickly be physically present with customers throughout the region.”
Even though they work fully remotely, a big part of their day still revolves around staying connected with colleagues and customers.
Lisa: “My days are built around team video calls, prospecting, customer meetings and follow-ups. Sometimes I also work from co-working spaces, because social interaction is important to me.”
Working across borders with clarity
For both of them, the biggest advantage of this way of working is the combination of freedom and responsibility. At the same time, this way of working requires clear communication, independence and good alignment with the team in the Netherlands.
Henrik: “It takes discipline and good planning for customer visits. And I need close contact with the team in the Netherlands, our partners and potential customers in the Nordics to stay aligned.”
Lisa: “It’s all about trust, transparency and clear communication. Good tools to stay connected across teams are important, for example through online video calls. I also really appreciate a culture where feedback and requests are actively listened to. Finally, while regular office visits are important, I also think it would be fantastic to welcome team members here in France to strengthen our bonds.
Closer to family through remote work
For Tobias and Helena, working remotely is about being closer to family and friends. It gives them the space to spend more time with loved ones and be there when it matters.
Tobias is Team Lead of the DACH Online Marketing Team within Booking Boosters, where he works together with the team on Google Ads, Social Ads and website optimisations for the German market. Originally, he is from South Tyrol in Northern Italy, near the Dolomites, where a large part of his family and friends still live.
Because of that, he tries to spend time there a few times a year. Being able to work remotely from Italy makes that a lot easier.
Tobias: “Before, I often had to choose between taking a vacation or visiting family. Now I can combine both much more easily, without having to take a lot of vacation days.”
When he works from Italy, he usually sets up his workspace at his grandfather’s living room where he has everything he needs to comfortably work remotely. Tobias: “I have a balcony with a really nice view there, so it’s easy to step outside for some fresh air or clear my head during the day.”
Balancing work and free time
Helena experiences something similar when working remotely from Austria. As an Online Marketer in the DACH team, she regularly works from her old study room at her parents’ home in Austria. She usually starts around 8 AM, so after work she still has enough time to meet up with friends or family.
Helena: “This helps me a lot because I really like spending time with my family and friends. This way, I can combine it with work without always having to take vacation days. In summer, I also like staying there a bit longer because I love the Austrian summer and usually get to celebrate my birthday there with family and friends.”
Trust & flexibility at Booking Experts
What Tobias and Helena mostly appreciate is the trust and flexibility they get from Booking Experts to make this possible in a way that fits their personal situation too.
Tobias: “I really like that there’s attention for everyone’s individual needs. It also feels good and motivating to be trusted to work remotely.”
Helena: “It honestly makes a lot of things easier. During work, it doesn’t really matter whether I’m working from the Netherlands or Austria. Outside of work, it gives me more space to do the things I enjoy and see the people who matter to me.’’
Autonomy at BEX: how it works in practice
What all these ways of working at Booking Experts have in common is that they are built on trust and responsibility. Colleagues are given the space to organise their work in their own way and make choices about how, where and when they work.
At the same time, this kind of freedom works best with good alignment and clear agreements. The trust you receive is often built over time, while collaboration with your team and our users always remains key. That’s why working remotely or in a hybrid way always happens in agreement with your team, with attention to things like availability, time zones and having a good workspace, so everything runs well and stays enjoyable for everyone.
