

Career Growth at Booking Experts
A career switch can feel both challenging and exciting, especially when you work for a company that supports your growth and gives you the chance to try new things. At Booking Experts (BEX), we spoke with three of our employees who made the switch to new roles within the company. They share their experiences, reasons for making the move and how BEX helped them grow along the way.
Can you tell us about your career path and what motivated you to make the switch to your current role?
Niek: 'I started in the real estate team at Booking Experts in January 2023 because I wanted to learn more about online marketing. I found marketing and real estate (investing) very interesting. After 2 years of having a wonderful time at Booking Boosters, I missed having direct contact with different parties and users and felt ready for something new. I discussed this situation internally with HR and had conversations with my head of. We explored my options within the company and discovered that sales would be a great fit for me.’
Sanne: ‘After my Tourism Management studies, I started in the Customer Success team. Since I had six years of experience in education through tutoring and teaching, I quickly took on side projects focused on learning and development. For example, I helped rewrite our Academy materials and gave themed training sessions. Through this, my interest in learning and development grew more and more. Luckily, I was able to make the switch from Customer Success to the Learning and Development department and pursue my interest.’
Laura: ‘After working in Inside Sales for several years, I realized that my true passion lies in supporting and coaching people. Alongside my job, I pursued training and courses in coaching and human behavior. I find great fulfillment in guiding colleagues and creating an environment where they can grow. This motivated me to switch to the HR department, where I now focus on finding, supporting, and developing talent within the company. It gives me energy to help build a strong and positive work environment.’

How has Booking Experts supported you in making this career switch?
Niek: ‘At BEX, I’ve received great support during my transition to a new role. Meetings with HR and department heads have been really helpful, giving me clear guidance and a better understanding of the company’s goals and values. These discussions helped me see what’s expected in my new role and how I can contribute to the team. I also found it helpful to have meetings focused on the key parts of the job and learning the tools I need. This allowed me to quickly get up to speed and feel confident in my new responsibilities. The support and clear communication have made the switch smooth and motivating.’
Sanne: ‘The main thing BEX did for me was acknowledging my interest and giving me the opportunity to focus on what I really wanted to do. Also, I got the opportunity to do a Post HBO in Educational science, which I almost finished and learned so much from!’
Laura: ‘At BEX, I took the initiative to talk to Maureen, my HR supervisor about switching to HR. During our conversation, I felt really comfortable and it was clear that Maureen believes in creating a culture of freedom, where employees are encouraged to explore opportunities for growth. She focuses on using your talents and helps you find internal opportunities that fit who you are and what you can do. This approach not only allows employees to grow but also gives them the freedom to choose their own path within the company. I feel very supported in this process and appreciate the openness and opportunities BEX offers for internal growth.’
What does growth mean to you, and how do you experience that at BEX?
Sanne: ‘To me growth means being open to new opportunities and accepting that progress doesn’t come without mistakes or insecurities. I believe it’s a mindset, in which you always look ahead and open yourself up to innovation and change. I recognize this at BEX as well because we are definitely in a transition that comes with a lot of new opportunities and changes, hopefully leading to significant growth.’
Laura: ‘At Booking Experts, I genuinely believe that fostering personal growth is important for staying motivated. A company like Booking Experts provides comprehensive training, tailored to your success. What tip would you give to someone considering a career switch?
Laura: ‘My main tip for anyone considering a career switch is to have the courage to speak with the relevant managers or the HR team and honestly share your wishes and ambitions. It’s important to clearly communicate where you want to go in your career and what you’re looking for in a new role. This not only opens the door for an honest and constructive conversation, but it also shows that you’re proactive and motivated to develop your career in the direction you want. At BEX, open communication and finding the right opportunities for employees is highly valued, so don’t be afraid to share your desires and ambitions.’
What do you like most about your new role?
Niek: ‘What I enjoy most is the customer contact and creating my own network. I also get to be involved in events. I was specifically asked to join events, and I really appreciate the opportunity to express what I enjoy doing. There’s room to shape your own role and focus on what excites you.’
Sanne: ‘What I find most interesting and enjoyable, but also challenging, is professionalizing and expanding learning and development opportunities within BEX. There are so many opportunities that align very well with our goals to grow and remain a leader in the recreation industry. I can’t wait to bring all these ideas to life!’
How do you see your further growth within BEX?
Niek: ‘Over time, I want to improve my skills and build a strong reputation within the company. As I grow in my role, I hope to take on more responsibility and contribute even more to the team’s success. Booking Experts offers a great environment for growth, and I’m excited about the chance to move forward within the company as I continue to build connections, learn new skills, and achieve good results.’
Sanne: ‘I hope that we can grow into a learning organization, where there’s room for personal growth and development for everyone, including myself. Also it would be great if the Learning & Development team could truly become a team rather than a one-person operation. That would mean we’re doing something right.’
Laura: ‘I see my further growth at BEX in continuing to develop my skills and expanding my knowledge in HR and leadership. I also want to keep learning from my colleagues and gain more experience to grow in different areas within HR. I see many opportunities to fully use my talents and contribute to the further success of BEX together with the team.’
